Boulder Colorado to vote to extend carbon tax to 2018

The City of Boulder, Colorado, will be balloting voters to see if they would like to extend the city’s carbon tax until 2018, according to reports in local newspaper the Daily Camera.

There was a plan to ask voters for a tax running until 2013, but the polls were not showing there was likely to be support for a 10 year tax.

The tax currently generates $1.8m a year, which is spent on renewable energy and energy efficiency programs.

The city officials have promised to improve commercial energy efficiency and continue residential programs to improve energy efficiency, if the tax is renewed.
